How To Be A Gracious Bride

By Katie on Sunday, July 12th, 2009.

While there are a few women out there who actually try to be bridezillas, I think it’s safe to say that the majority of engaged women try to be gracious. Gracious when working with vendors, gracious when dealing with old and new family members, you get the picture.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with both the gracious and the not-so-gracious and I’d like to share some of the things I’ve found that gracious brides seem to have in common.

Have some manners. This one is pretty obvious. I’m not saying these ladies know how to set a formal table place setting and what to do with a napkin in every possible instance (that’s more etiquette), but, they know how to carry themselves well and interact with people in a pleasant way.

Be polite. Also an obvious one, but it it’s an important one, too! Some brides act like they are the only bride on the planet. Let’s be honest - this is far from the truth. Just because you’re “the bride” doesn’t mean you should kiss your manners goodbye or let your ability to be nice walk out the door. Everyone you interact with - vendors, family, and friends - will be thankful they don’t have to deal with a bridezilla!

Keep an open mind. It is always a delight to work with brides (and couples) who keep an open mind. It doesn’t mean you can’t have an opinion or start your planning with a specific idea of what you want your big day to look and feel like (in fact, that’s helpful) but, when you work with people who have been doing weddings for years, they probably have a few good ideas and suggestions to share with you. Hear them out before you make up your mind for sure!

Be prompt. Sometimes this is just a personal thing - some people are on time all the time, others are not. While your business as a bride is important for every one of your vendors, they also have other brides to fit into their schedules (and not to mention a personal life to take care of). Vendors appreciate brides that are on time for appointments and don’t cancel meetings once they have been set.

The biggest perk to being a gracious bride? Vendors like them and will go above and beyond to provide exceptional service. It’s just human nature to be good to the people who are good to you.
