The Perfect KC Wedding
Written by Katie on June 4, 2008 – 5:04 pm -For the true, through and through KC couple, Kansas City is the perfect place to have a wedding. But why leave it at just a wedding while you can have your whole wedding weekend or week, romping around the US’s city of fountains? Let us walk you though the perfect Kansas City Wedding.
Week Prior to the Wedding:
Guests start arriving. Show them a good time by giving them a list of all the great things to do and see around Kansas City. There is something for everyone. Art lovers? Suggest the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. Music or baseball lovers? Send them to the 18th and Vine Historic District to visit the Jazz Museum and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. A family looking for some fun? Tell them about Science City at Union Station. Will there be beautiful weather around the time of your wedding? Send your guests to promenade around Loose park. Will it be colder? How about ice skating and shopping at Crown Center
Treating your ‘maids:
What better place to bond with the ladies in your party than the Country Club Plaza. Filled with great places to shop and to eat, you’ll wonder what how the day flew by so quickly. Looking for a way to say thanks to you gal pals? How about a cute dress from Betsy Johnson or trendy bag from Coach? More of a crafty type? Grab the girls and take them to 1154 Lill Studio where they can design their own handbags. Looking more for a day of pampering? Check out some of the beauty and skin care boutiques such as MAC Cosmetics, L’Occitane, and The Body Shop. Or perhaps you’re looking for the perfect something for your new home. You’ll find plenty of must-haves at Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, Scandia Down, and Williams-Sonoma
Fun with the fellows:
Think the guys feel left out? Hove them go to a game! Football? Baseball? Pick what’s in season. Feeling hungry? Have them check out Manny’s on Southwest Boulevard or Houston’s on the Plaza. Top off the day with something they might like the best. Suggest that they take a tour of the Boulevard Brewing Company (also on Southwest Boulevard). Be sure to call and make a reservation
So rehearsal day has finally come and it is time to practice walking down the aisle. As fun as it may be, the thing on everyone’s mind is “What’s for dinner?” Treat your wedding party to some KC favorites for dinner. Try American Restaurant with great panoramic views of Kansas City or the Majestic Steakhouse with it’s great live music. Desire a more family-style feel? Try Buca Di Beppo on the Plaza. Going green? Check out the Blue Bird Bistro for the socially conscious and environmentally friendly dining.
When the wedding day rolls around, everyone is excited for the day to start! Where to have your Kansas City ceremony and reception? A few of my favorite include Union Station, Loose Park and Loose Mansion, the Kansas City Club, and the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. Union Station has the Jarvis Hunt Room, perfect for intimate ceremonies or a cocktail hour and the Grand Hall, which is huge and historic, great for a glamourous reception. If the weather allows and you’ve dreamt of a garden wedding, pay a visit to the rose garden in Loose Park and then head to Loose Mansion for a reception in the wonderfully preserved historic home. If your event will have a smaller number of people in attendance (less than 150), try the Kansas City Club. It’s Crystal Room is perfect for the small, elegant event. The University Room, with its many stained glass pained windows and sophisticated ceiling is perfect for the event with no more than 160 guests. And lastly, the Nelson, which I love to visit as often as I can, also have great spaces for events. The only downside is you have to be a benefactor of a certain level of the museum to be allowed to have events.
After the dinner and dancing are though, it’s time to tell your guests good bye with a grand exit. Then, it’s off you to the honeymoon suit for you and your love. Our favorites? The Hilton President Hotel and Hotel Phillips. Others to check out include the Crowne Plaza Downtown Kansas City and Hotel Savoy.
